90s - Drafting a Centerpiece

In the beginning of the Timberwolves history, they struggled to find an identity. They began to find success after drafting future Defensive Player of the Year award winner – Kevin Garnett. One year after this they began a run of years making the playoffs under head coach Flip Saunders.

00s - Losing their Star

The first 7 years of their playoff run, the Timberwolves lost in the first round every time. The 8th year, they make the Western Conference Finals losing to the Lakers. After this season, they didn’t return to the playoffs for a long time, resulting in Kevin Garnett leaving the franchise.

10s - Young Stars

Throughout the 2010s, the Timberwolves had a plethora of young stars including Kevin Love, Andrew Wiggins, Zach Lavine, Karl-Anthony Towns, and D’Angelo Russell. However only one playoff appearance came out of this under star player Jimmy Butler. Finding the right coach played a big role in their struggles as they had 6 different head coaches in these 10 years.
